The Centre of Expertise Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality (CELTH) is a unique collaboration between Breda University of Applied Sciences, NHL Stenden University, and HZ University of Applied Sciences. CELTH is one of the 30 Centres of Expertise in the Netherlands and the only expertise centre dedicated to the leisure, tourism, and hospitality sectors.
Our mission is to foster sustainable development within the leisure, tourism, and hospitality sectors by bridging the gap between academia and industry. We achieve this through public-private partnerships, combining the expertise of professors, researchers, and students with the needs of market parties, destinations, and industry stakeholders.
At CELTH, we are committed to addressing social issues at regional, national, and European levels. Our team of researchers connects various parties, drives innovation and searches for sustainable solutions. By leveraging practice-based research, we contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and support informed decision-making for a better future.
Our Projects
CELTH has developed over 100 large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects, focused on research and sustainable strategies for the challenges of tomorrow in the following fields:
- Living Environment: We work on projects that aim to improve the quality of life in urban and rural areas by integrating leisure and tourism into spatial planning and development.
- Governance: This theme focuses on the governance structures and processes within the leisure, tourism, and hospitality sectors. We analyze and develop frameworks to ensure effective management and policy-making that align with sustainable development goals.
- Human Capital: Our initiatives focus on enhancing the skills and competencies of professionals in the leisure, tourism, and hospitality sectors through education and training programs.
- Sustainability: We are dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within the industry. Our projects aim to reduce environmental impact, promote responsible tourism, and support the transition to a circular economy.
